Hello! I'm Julie Thomas-Beckett.
I am a teacher, a counselor, a mentor, a mom. I have two adult children who inspire and challenge me to be my best self. I live with my husband and I enjoy kayaking and biking with my him and our friends. Working for 33 years as a Family Nurse Practitioner has taught me the value of self-care, and I try to 'walk my talk' with healthy nutrition (although I do enjoy a chocolate chip cookie every now and then),
and yoga which is my movement medicine.
By addressing life's challenges through a growth mindset, I try to answer the question:
"Who am I and how do I want to be?"
Throughout my career as a health care provider and as an educator, I believe we are not just biological beings with cells, muscles, and organs. We are “bio-psycho-social-spiritual” beings.
I approach life through this lens.

I approach life through this lens.
I have a body, but I have emotions and thoughts that affect me psychologically. I am part of a family system, in the American culture, so I am a social being. Most importantly, I am a spiritual being as I routinely strive to define the purpose and meaning for my existence.
Despite the challenges we face in our world and in our communities, it is my hope that this site, my book and blog will inspire you to answer your own question; "Who am I and how do I want to be?"

Despite the challenges we face in our world and in our communities, it is my hope that this site, my book and blog will inspire you to answer your own question; "Who am I and how do I want to be?"
My favorite quote came from a ten year old child with AIDS who spoke at the Worlds AIDs conference in 1999. Nkosi said, "Do all you can, with what you have, in the place you are, with the time you have."
I try to do this, and invite everyone to do the same.
Join me on the journey as we all try to find our way back to our greatest self and back to each other.
I walk the talk with the work I do in healthcare, education, peace teams and parenting.
My Circle of Concern is huge; my Circle of Influence is relatively small - so I start here.
I use the voice of kinship to counter the voices of separation and other-ization.
I believe Nonviolence is a courageous choice, fostering respect and kinship which then allows peace within our selves, our communities, and our countries.
I'm eager to hear from you! Sign-up for updates, news and special appearances.
